Job Summary and Responsibilities:

Plural Studio seeks a landscape architect with 7+ years of experience to join our collaborative team. In this role, you will take ownership of key project components—from design development through construction—developing thoughtful design solutions, detailed construction documentation, and graphic drawings that communicate clear, compelling concepts. You'll coordinate directly with clients, contractors, and consultants, including architects, engineers, MEP, irrigation, and joint trench teams, to ensure alignment, technical accuracy, and design excellence throughout the project lifecycle. You'll be responsible for integrating existing site features into resilient, context-sensitive designs while analyzing conditions such as drainage, grading, constructability, and code requirements to inform design decisions.

Additional responsibilities include leading the development and coordination of construction documents, preparing technical details and specifications, responding to RFIs and submittals, conducting construction observation and site inspections, evaluating materials and installations to ensure they meet the design intent, and working collaboratively with contractors to resolve field conditions. You may also represent the studio in client meetings and presentations to community groups and public agencies, while mentoring junior staff and contributing to the technical growth of the team.

This role is ideal for someone who brings strong design thinking, technical expertise, construction observation experience, and the ability to confidently navigate complex, multi-disciplinary projects from concept through construction.

Required Technical Skills:

  • Design Iteration: Works rigorously in design exploration, iteration, and refinement.
  • Graphic Design: Ability to generate beautiful illustrative plans, renderings, and clear diagrams and graphics.
  • Construction Documentation: Extensive experience producing and coordinating complete construction document sets from Design Development through Construction Documents.
  • Construction Detailing: Strong detailing skills with experience developing buildable, elegant solutions and coordinating technical interfaces with consultants.
  • Construction Observation: Experience conducting site observations, reviewing submittals and RFIs, documenting field reports, and working collaboratively with contractors to resolve field conditions.
  • Consultant Coordination: Proven ability to coordinate multidisciplinary teams including civil, structural, architecture, MEP, irrigation, lighting, and specialty consultants. Architecture regulations: Familiarity with local zoning requirements and legal statutes that regulate landscape design.
  • AutoCAD: Fluency in AutoCAD, including experience in compiling and managing drafting sets with sheet set manager and detail/tag automation.
  • Technology: Extensive technical knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite, Bluebeam and Bluebeam Sessions, 3D modeling in Rhino and Sketchup.

Required Competencies:

  • Communication: Communicate assumptions and get clarification on tasks up front to minimize the need for rework. Propose solutions, not just problems. Anticipate client questions and prepare productive and insightful answers in advance.
  • Engagement: Balances creativity with structure. Ensures that the standard project lifecycle moves forward smoothly while maintaining high quality and care.
  • Adaptability and Flexibility: Balances strong design intent with the ability to pivot in response to real-world challenges, ensuring that our projects maintain integrity even through evolving site conditions, stakeholder input, and construction constraints.
  • Collaboration: Prioritizes honesty, active listening, and clarity, ensuring that collaboration flows smoothly, expectations are managed, and our team and clients stay aligned throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Problem Solving: Partners closely with contractors, fabricators, and grounds workers, refining technical details to ensure that even the simplest projects maintain their design clarity without compromising the core vision. Ensures that form, function, and constructability align seamlessly.

Nice to Have:

  • Licensure: Licensed Landscape Architect with current credentials.
  • Soils: Knowledge of the diversity of soil elements and types of soil concerning plant growth.
  • Planting Design & Horticultural Knowledge: Familiarity with plant varieties, design characteristics, and suitability for public and commercial landscapes.
  • On-Structure Design: Familiarity with designing on-structure projects.
  • Technology: Experience with Revit, LandFX, Enscape, and/or Lumion.

Additional Job Details:

  • Salary: Equity is a core Plural value and we are committed to providing a competitive salary based on experience. We pay our designers hourly with overtime to demonstrate our appreciation of your time and to enable you to have greater flexibility with your schedule.
  • Benefits: We offer full-time employees medical, dental, and life insurance and a 401(k) plan. We also reimburse initial or relicensing exam fees.
  • Flexible Work: Our team engages in active mentorship at all design phases, from concept to construction. The office uses a hybrid model that allows employees to balance their schedules while working remotely.
